WELCOME TO GLASSENBURY CAMPING

Glassenbury Camping is a family run back to basics eco campsite in Kent, set in the heart of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and expands over some twelve acres of land, with campers pitching wherever they please.

The site has been created with careful consideration for the environment. We use renewable energy where possible, the setting is off-grid with no electricity, and toilets are of the composting variety. The meadow is very spacious and is surrounded on most sides by high trees and shaggy hedgerows, and what small slope exists is south-east facing, so you get fabulous sunsets on those summer evenings.

There's no large crowds or thumping music late in to the night. This is Glassenbury. Not Glastonbury. But there are a few things the two have in common. There's plenty of space, there's a focus on the eco-friendly, and the setting, on a farm, is left for sheep to graze for the rest of the year. It's small, it's quiet... it's great.

With breathtaking views and plenty of activities on your door step it offers a unique setting to escape the stresses of every day life.

Pitch choices

Whether you choose a grass pitch or a pre-pitched bell tent, you're in for a relaxing time. Pitch your tent where you please in our spacious meadow, or book to stay in our dedicated Bell Tent area. And though we're off-grid and electricity-free, you'll enjoy clean and sustainable facilities, including eco compost loos, hot showers, and safari bucket showers.

We do not offer parking at your pitch but we do provide wheelbarrows onsite for campers to help transport belongings. The carpark area is located in the campsite meadow.

A particular bonus of camping here is Glassenbury's convenient location.

It's less than two hours from central London and finds itself in prime walking and cycling country.

The local villages of Cranbook (five minute drive) or a 45 minute walk through beautiful ancient woodland, and picturesque Goudhurst (also a five-minute drive) or a 2 hour walk have a handful of good pubs and cafés between them – the latter has a steep high street running between the church and the village pond which famously featured in the 2007 Tour de France.

If you are a keen walker, the bridleway that runs just north of the campsite is part of the Long Distance Walkers Association's "Three Castles Walk", which lets you take in Sissinghurst Castle, Scotney Castle and Bodiam Castle all in one day and gives you an idea of how close they all are.

Try boating, sailing, canoeing or hire bikes and cycle around Bewl Water, a 15 minute drive away.

Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest is also just a 10 minute drive from the campsite.

It's 25 minutes drive to the village of Battle (of 1066 fame) and approximately 30-45 minutes to Rye, Hastings and the South Coast.

It's enough that you won't be able to do it all in one holiday. But then, like Glastonbury, you'll probably be returning year after year!

Testimonials

This campsite is in a great location with stunning uninterrupted views of the countryside. The campsite is very well kept and the toilets and showers are very clean (the compost toilet is not smelly at all!) The team are very friendly and always available to talk to if you have any problems. They make a real effort with the little touches such as providing wheelbarrows for moving your equipment around and eco-friendly sanitizer/soap/washing-up-liquid/shampoo. We also loved using the fire pit they provided! It was great to have pitches very spread out which meant it was quiet and you felt you had your own private space. There was a really nice atmosphere and it was great to see people of all ages having such a great time! There are walks you can do from the campsite and Scotney Castle and Bewl Water are just a short drive away. I would recommend both but please note if you want to do any boating activities you have to book in advance! If you want a day out to the beach, Camber Sands is a great choice, about 35 mins drive away. Overall, a top rate campsite- Thank you Raf and Maria for making it such a lovely holiday!

"A wonderful weekend"

What a fantastic weekend we had at Glassenbury. The facilities were some of the best I have seen whilst camping, with a brilliant focus on being eco-friendly. Showers and toilets were all impeccably clean, with great washing up and fresh water facilities too. The site itself is beautifully situated, with sunsets and views to die for. It's a really big space, so although we shared the site with several others, it felt private and peaceful. The owners were kind and welcoming, and should be so proud of everything they have achieved here - a little slice of heaven! We'll definitely be back.

Perfect spacious camping under canvas. Views down through the valley are far-reaching and it's the perfect place to enjoy a sunset session by a fire with friends and a bottle of local wine. I visited a few local wineries during my stay, but will return to check out more of the local area by foot. Balfour Winery and Woodchurch Wine are less than 30 mins drive and both offer tastings and tours. Facilities are really good on-site and eco soaps are provided if you forget your own. Friendly welcome and check-in from the lovely Maria too :) Parking is at the entrance to the field and wheel barrows are available to carry your equipment to your chosen pitch. There's not many sites like this in the country that offer so much space between pitches. And there's not a car, caravan or motorhome around to get in the way of your view. Enjoy!!

I couldn’t recommend this campsite any more highly. Lovely grass pitches with views across the countryside and incredibly clean facilities including hot showers with decent water pressure. The hosts are friendly and helpful and the campsite had a lovely relaxed vibe with a mixture of couples and families. Excellent location too for visiting National Trust and English Heritage sites. We have already booked a return stay!
